Alongside appearing on the concert stage, 12 Ensemble have brought their distinct sound and creativity to award-winning film scores such as Jonny Greenwood's baroque and free jazz inspired Spencer and his Oscar-nominated The Power of the Dog. 12 Ensemble feature both on the soundtrack and on screen for director Andrew Dominik's documentary film This much I know to be True, exploring the unique friendship and musical collaborations of Nick Cave and Warren Ellis. After collaborating with Nick and Warren on their 2021 album Carnage, the group recorded strings for their score to La Panthère des Neiges, the César award-winning documentary film following photographer Vincent Munier and novelist Sylvain Tesson's search for the rare snow leopard, and their score to Warwick Thornton's The New Boy which premiered at Cannes Film Festival 2023.

The ensemble recently worked with pianist and composer Emilie Levienaise-Farrouch on her score to The Strays, and Peter Raeburn on the Swedish horror Håndtering av udøde (Handling the Undead), an adaptation of John Ajvide Lindqvist's novel by the same title, winner of the Jury award for original music at Sundance 2024.

As fans of independant cinema, the ensemble have also enjoyed working on director's first feature films including French-Moroccan Sofia Alaoui's Animalia, scored by Amine Bouhafa, which premiered at Sundance Film Festival 2023 and won the award for Best International Feature Film at Calgary International Film Festival. The ensemble recorded Amine's score to Kaouther Ben Hania's deeply moving Four Daughters, nominated for Best Documentary at the 2024 Oscars.

The ensemble is flexible in size and instrumentation and always welcomes the experimentation of new sounds and ideas. As an artist-led collective, we enjoy developing relationships with composers and artists. If you would like to get in touch about working together, please contact eloisa@the12ensemble.com
